Escola de Shibari is Brazil’s first school dedicated exclusively to the study and practice of Shibari. Founded and led by Akira Nawa, a trans femme artist, performer and educator, the school places structured teaching at the center of its work.
Our progressive curriculum helps students build technical skill, safety awareness and personal expression. The main three-year training program offers weekly classes, alongside shorter group courses for different levels and interests.
We also host Shibari Jams and performances, guide students in creating artistic work and connect them with external performance opportunities. The space is entirely focused on Shibari and does not host other BDSM practices. We follow established safety protocols and have an active community that welcomes newcomers.
Scholarships are available for trans people and those facing financial hardship, making long-term Shibari education more accessible.

Akira Nawa

I’m Akira Nawa, a trans femme Shibari artist, educator and performer with 17 years of practice. I opened Brazil’s first Shibari studio in 2017 and its first Shibari school in 2024. My work has taken me to many stages, and I now perform regularly at Love Cabaré in São Paulo. There, I am also the artistic director of Shibari Night, an evening dedicated entirely to Shibari.
