How to vet a listing

Community Listings are an informational starting point. Before attending an event, take time to assess whether a space feels right for you.

Review the details carefully

Look for clarity and specificity. Vague language can be a signal to ask more questions.

  • Are offerings clearly described?
  • Do they outline skill level?
  • Are safety and consent practices mentioned?

Research the instructors

Search beyond the listing.

  • Do they have a website or social media presence?
  • How long have they been teaching?
  • Do they credit their lineage or training?
  • Do they have testimonials or reviews?

Ask questions

You’re allowed to ask about:

  • Safety protocols
  • Class structure
  • Consent practices
  • Accessibility
  • Refund or cancellation policies

A trustworthy space will welcome thoughtful questions.

Assess Communication

How someone communicates before an event often reflects how they hold space.

  • Do they respect your boundaries and needs?
  • Do they avoid pressure or coercion?
  • Do they answer your questions directly?

Check Accessibility & Inclusion

If it matters to you, it’s worth confirming. Ask about:

  • Physical accessibility
  • Trauma-informed approaches
  • Gender & sexuality inclusivity
  • Cultural sensitivity
  • Commitments to anti-racism
  • COVID & health considerations

Trust your body

Beyond logic — notice your nervous system.

  • Does something feel off?
  • Do you feel pressured or rushed?
  • Do you feel seen and respected?

You don’t need a ‘good enough’ answer to decline. Your comfort is reason enough.

Your discernment is your responsibility

Shibari Study hosts the directory but does not verify or endorse listings. Your discernment and your choices are your responsibility.

If you experience something concerning, please report it directly through the listing page.
