More about Shibari Sydney

We are a large multi purpose space, specialising in Shibari & kink education. We have 4 mat areas with purpose installed and around 36 certified suspension points with which we can do single point or bamboo suspensions. The areas can be combined into one large L shaped room or curtained off into 4 separate areas. Additionally we have a decent kitchen, break out area and 4 toilets across 2 non-segregated bathrooms and 2 non-segregated showers. Close by are several cafes/takeaways and we are close to two different train lines. There is ample street parking and inexpensive rear parking (1hr free then $3/hr). Tea/coffee/filtered water is available free of charge and snacks often on hand!

Our space is ideal for aligned workshops - we’ve hosted yoga, breathwork, tantra, body play/wrestling, fireplay, aerial lyra/chains and more. We’ve held kink exhibitions, book launches, performance nights (intimate seating for 30 or theatre seating for 100), dinner parties, raves, photo/video shoots.

The team

  • Mike L

    (he/him)

    Teacher

Mike leads an awesome team of volunteers who form the teaching crew at Shibari Sydney, where the femme identifying teachers currently just outnumber the mascs! Mike started studying Shibari in earnest in 2017 and is predominantly influenced in rope style & philosophy by Akechi Kanna Sensei but also holds elements of other Sensei’s teachings as valid and important, incorporating them into his own tying. Recently, he has been drawn to the teachings of Federico Kirigami.

  • Sim G

    (she/her)

    Founder

Sim started Shibari Sydney wanting a space that doesn’t just feel safe, inclusive and a breath of fresh air to be in, but actually was as well. Her drive was to have staff that weren’t powered by ego or over confidence. She wanted a crew who projected humility, courtesy, respect and safety, with a constant drive to learn more and become better. A crew who were driven by a passion to share a positivity through rope (&kink) because they love it so much. That’s still how we choose our team. :)
