Laiana is a lyrical singer specialized in contemporary vocal techniques—she works with noise, fragments, glitches. After our first meeting, she mentioned wanting to explore a voice-and-shibari project. Since I’m very interested in how movement and rope affect the voice, we began from there.

At the beginning, we were researching how to “break” the singing. But her body is so well-trained to protect her voice that this wasn’t as easy as one might think, haha. Eventually we reached that point, but we realized the subtle vocal changes that occurred during tying were far more interesting.

For the performance itself, she proposed starting from a fragmented composition based on Schubert’s Gretchen am Spinnrade. First, because the song speaks of someone spinning a thread—an image close to shibari. And second, because it deals with intrusive thoughts, something that disrupts your actions, your day, your peace, which resonated with the physical research we were doing.

It’s crazy, right? It seems like all the “free speech–focused” policies they’ve been defending so fiercely only apply to extreme right–wing publications right now. Did you ever had trouble with your instagram account too?

Ahhh, this is so cool! Are there any pictures on Instagram or FetLife? If I were to visit Germany, how could I find the bondage picnics ...through FetLife?

Nowadays, it happens in most main cities — São Paulo, Rio, Curitiba, Brasília, and others. You can find information about the one in Rio at https://www.instagram.com/atadosnoparquerj. The date for next month isn’t out yet; they usually announce it around the beginning of the month. I’m part of the organizing team for the São Paulo event, so if you visit and want to attend, let me know!

We had a similar experience with the police here — they were more curious than anything, which was a nice surprise! Once, we even had some religious folks approach us and try to convince us to go to church… that was a truly unexpected moment, hahahaha.

Bondage Picnic and Similar Events Around the World

Hey everyone! I'm curious — here in Brazil, we have a strong tradition of hosting shibari events in public parks. We call them Atados no Parque (“Tied in the Park”). These are monthly events held in major Brazilian cities where people from the scene — as well as newcomers — can come together to talk, learn, and even tie.

Usually, more sensual-leaning ties aren’t allowed since the events take place in public spaces, but that doesn’t stop people from connecting and having fun.

As far as I know, these events started in Brazil about 10–12 years ago, inspired by international gatherings like Bondage Picnic. I’m curious — are there similar events happening regularly in other countries?

I’m also posting a picture from one of our events here in São Paulo, Brazil (taken and published with everyone's consent)
