Getting to Know You: Top, Bottom, Switch or Self-Tie? How do you identify in rope, are you predominantly a top, a bottom or do you happily switch. Or are you one of those amazingly talent people who does all at once by self tying? Community Agreements:1. Celebrate and embrace the diversity of thought, practice, and opinion. There are many ways to do and practice rope. The Community Discord is a way for us all to engage and interact across differences. While rope connects us all, we are still unique individually.2. Navigate disagreement through discourse. Treat others with respect, even if you disagree. Discord is primarily a text interaction platform, please be mindful that miscommunications can happen.3. Respect each community members’ identities and honor their boundaries/requests about how they wish to be treated. Treat others how they wish to be treated - this includes using their correct pronouns, name, and any other identifying factors that feel important to them. If you make a mistake, take accountability for your actions and try to repair any harm caused. 4. Help create safer spaces for learning and growth through mutual accountability and co-created community accountability. Accountability is mutually co-created. This space is meant to build community and hold each other in that process - sometimes that means making mistakes. Our commitment to accountability begins with a willingness to own and accept that we are all capable of causing harm. Let’s intentionally build a space where making mistakes and making things right is a part of how we operate.5. Bring a growth mindset and be mindful of your learning zones. Check-in with yourself and where your learning zones are. Be mindful when you are in the panic zone and ask for help if you need it. 6. Actively receive in conversation before responding. Receive information down to the last word before taking the time to communicate your thoughts. 7. Make space, take space. Reflect on when you’re able to take up more space in the discord/threads/conversations and reflect on if you need to be creating more space for others. Reflect on if you aren’t participating as much or taking up space, why that might be. Try to find the courage to share your thoughts and take up space, you belong here! 8. Be mindful of the impact of your actions, not just the intentions behind them. Just because we didn’t intend to hurt or harm someone doesn’t change that they are hurt/harmed. 9. NSFW Content. We unfortunately cannot have explicit NSFW content on the community at this time. As an education platform in Shibari we do recognise some content is concerning the practice of shibari but we cannot host explicit material. We do not want to moderate heavily in this space so please be mindful when sharing photographs. 10. This is all challenge by choice. It’s a choice of action to be here and to be participating in this space. Please participate at whatever capacity feels accessible and most authentic for you

Greetings my fellow rope lovers and spooky rope bats. I go by Ghoul and I am a los angeles rigger that has been tying for roughly seven years now. I mostly started tying under the guidance from there I've been learning different skills under different mentors. Recently I've been working on transitions to lengthen my suspensions, my objective is to improve the head space of my bottom as I want to see them melt in my rope. Additionally I've been really busy trying to learn more predicament and sadistic rope so I would love to get any tips or suggestions of articles that I could read to learn more.

Simple, improvised, effective.

What you can’t see:

There is a line under the armpit that did start moving down - it seems it’s time to start my first basic chest harness.

Hi!

What a wonderful introduction to the ShibariStudy team! I began exploring Shibari about a year ago, and ShibariStudy has been an invaluable resource throughout my learning journey. At first, slightly intimidated by the sheer breadth and depth of the content, but now I enjoy letting curiosity guide me — sometimes seeking out a specific tie, and other times simply letting myself be surprised.I truly appreciate the calm, clear instructions and the excellent camerawork that supports it.

Love rope, its intention, all the possibilities, the technique, the esthetics, the feel of it. Somebody could have warned me that it also might be slightly addictive 😉

Heeey, I'm so excited about this space... It sucks to have your pictures banned from other social media all the time! It will be good to have one to call home. Great idea Fuoco , Anton  and all the Shibari study gang!
I'm Aspero (he/him), from Brazil. I'm a rigger, a physical theater actor, and a father of two. My partner in the pictures is Douce, who also happens to be my partner in life. To start, I’ll post some photos from a performance we did when she was five months pregnant — it’s called Red Line. As always, it got our account shadowbanned on other social media.

I wanted try out the new community feature by sharing this tie with Aura.

During our kinky camping adventure at Kinbaku Dreams, I wanted to play with the exploding harness taught by Roxu & Enna in the live classes. (Linked below)

So much fun, can’t get enough of it. Thanks you two! 🙏🖤🥰

Hi everyone, just wanted to say hi 😊

I was always a bottom, but this year I started to top and I think I'm starting to like it a lot more than I thought I would. 😊

How did you guys get into rope and what does it give you (question is valid for both tops and bottoms)? Would love to hear your answers.

Quick intro post from me too! I'm Annie (they/she) and I'm the editor of the Shibari Study blog and the person behind most of the words you see on Shibari Study. I'm originally from South Africa, where my interest in shibari really got started thanks to a then tiny DIY rope scene, and I'm now based in Berlin, where my ropey horizons expanded more than I ever imagined they could.

I started working for Shibari Study way back in 2020 when we were still a scrappy team of three. To plagiarise myself pretty directly from my blog bio, my career has taken me from undercover goth agony aunt to lads’ mag sex columnist to ropey copy creature, which makes writing an intro post like this fun and a CV hard. I love rope, writing and snacks, and it's wild that I get to dabble in at least two of those professionally.

Feel free to message me about anything blog related. I'm super excited to connect with folks in this space, and can't wait to get to know you better – and, hopefully, for you to get to know us too!

Hi, my name is Anton and I’m the co-founder and ceo of Shibari Study:) I’m usually working away in the background but wanted to say hi and introduce the idea behind this new feature really quickly. As socials monetise our outrage and hate, amplifying our divisions and systematically eroding our capacity for nuanced thinking and empathy, we built this digital space to fosters community, education and connection. Our mission at Shibari Study is to develop an intuitive platform that supports bondage practitioners of every level, role and identity while nurturing relationships between individuals, educators and rope spaces. We hope that this community feature is a big step into the right direction. Please ask questions, share your experiences and help uplift other fellow rope lovers. We’re stronger, safer and happier together. Personally I’m mostly looking forward to people’s pet pics, some spicy memes and nerdy convos about niche rope stuff.
Oh and please feel free to shoot me a DM anytime with questions, concerns or general feedback about Shibari Study or your experience just practicing rope. Always curious and happy to chat or connect, so come say hi- even if I take a little while to reply:)
Aaanyways, hope everyone has fun here and remember to be kind and help keep each other safe <3
